MOONEE PONDS

The owners of this beautiful heritage home wanted a new front garden that would complement the period architecture but also feel contemporary. They asked for some colour, ‘no fussy plants’ and a garden that was easy to maintain.

The garden transformation begins with repairs to the tiled verandah and the installation of a new heritage-style iron fence. Next, the garden is laid out with bluestone paving and brick edging salvaged from the old path. Garden beds feature traditional favourites such as Gardenias with waves of Lomandra, Ajuga and Rhapiolepsis for a clean, modern look. Gingkos and Dogwoods provide Autumn colour and white and blue flowers appear throughout the year. A feature pot with succulents makes a contemporary statement.

“Penny Starr Design had a very basic brief – low maintenance, pops of colour and to enhance the features of our heritage home.  Penny did that and more.  She turned the front garden from a derelict, unmanaged garden into something that makes everyone walking past stop to give feedback as to its beauty.

The design, while elegant and simple and easy to maintain, has enough layers to make it interesting.”
